Muscle scraping works by adding a stimulus (scraper tool) to the tissues and surrounding area creating a healing response. The therapist applies pressure and moves the scraper tool across the tissues creating microtrauma in the tissue and fascia, some therapists refer to this as "breaking up adhesions". This micro trauma creates an inflammatory response with causes the bodys reaction to create new collagen and elastin fibers, to help the tissues repair and strengthen.
Fascial scraping also improves circulation. Tight tissues do not accept blood flow well, so loosening up adhesions and creating space in the tissue for fluid flow the tissues get the required nutrients and amino acids they need to rebuild and heal. With increased blood flow and fluid flow, tissues recover and rebuild faster.
